The Demopolis High School Tigers ended a disappointing football season at home Oct. 29 with another disappointing loss, this time to the Marbury High School Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs returned to Deatsville in Autauga County with a 42 to 7 win over the Tigers. Marbury ends the season with a 9-1 record and will move on to the first round of the playoffs next week. Demopolis has a record of 3-7. Their season, uncharacteristically, is at an end.

Marbury scored on all but one of their positions, but they made up for that by running an errant hike into the Tigers’ endzone. The Tigers prevented a shutout when quarterback Emonte Charleston picked up another over-the-head hike and ran it from his own 16 yard line into the Bulldogs’ endzone.

Starting quarterback Whit Goodwin went out with what Head Coach Dustin Goodwin described in an after-game interview on the Blue Heat Radio Network as a knee injury that probably won’t require surgery.

Freshman Davis Allgood took over briefly before Charleston, a senior, finished the game for the Tigers.

Demopolis generated 165 yards of offence to Marbury’s 317 yards. It looked worse than that from the stands. Marbury dominated on both sides of the ball throughout the game, going into the locker room at half time with a 35-0 lead.

Charleston, Jordan Cherry and Colt Goodwin gained the most yards for the Tigers. On defense, senior Will Compton and freshman Bryce Meadows were the leading tacklers.

The Demopolis seniors played under three head coaches in three years. This year’s team leaned on many young players, and at times it showed. The result was a losing season that saw the Tigers fall to teams that were traditionally sure wins for the boys in blue.

Tigers fans now hope that new, stable leadership from Athletic Director Mark Heaton, Goodwin and his assistant coaches will grow this young team into winners.

Oct. 29 was Senior Day. Seniors on the team are Emonte Charleston, Cayden Sanders, Jalen Thurman, Kobe Monroe, E’Maurie White, Cage Roberts, Jake Card, Will Compton, Jamarcus Washington, Foster Freeman, Jatavious Lawson, Javonte Johnson, Thomaston Blakely and Antonio Mcclain.
