Demopolis High School was unable to generate much Blue Heat against the Jackson High School Aggies at the Tigers’ home opener Friday. Â
The Tigers were no match for last year’s No. 1 4A team, losing 41-0 at home to a team that includes several players already destined to play college ball throughout the SEC. Five-star running back EJ Crowell, who will be wearing Crimson this time next year, came back from a one-game suspension to deliver 247 yards on 11 carries. Â
Other Aggies put up good numbers under the leadership of South Carolina commit Lander Duckworth at quarterback. Â
Meanwhile, the Demopolis Tigers, who are in what you could charitably call a rebuild year under one-year head coach Ricky Woods, couldn’t generate a spark on offence or defense. The score demonstrates that the Tigers had a hard time stopping Jackson on the ground or in the air, although an interception in their own endzone stalled an Aggies touchdown drive and gave the home crowd something to cheer about. Â
The Tigers offence, mostly led by quarterback J.W. McAlpin, was unable to hoe a row through the Aggies. TheTigers produced 7 first downs to the Aggies 23 and 125 yardsoffence to Jackson’s 392 yards. Â
The Tigers have next week off and begin region play at Montevallo on Sept. 12.Â
