Marion City Hall

Marion City Council will hold an emergency meeting Monday night to discuss how to restore water to approve funding to make immediate water plant repairs.

The council meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The council will be asked to "authorize access to emergency funding and accelerate contractor bids for immediate water plant repairs," the city said in a statement.

The city worked on Sunday with the Perry County Water Authority to temporarily connect to their water supply, but officials warned the connection may not provide full water access to all residents.

The city also said on Sunday night that the water system is currently at the filtration stage so water may be cloudy or sputtering water from the faucet, which is "normal as air clears from the lines and pressure stabilizes." The city asked residents to run it until the water clears.

"We kindly ask everyone to avoid running multiple faucets at the same time, as we work to balance pressure and prevent leaks or overload on the system," the city added in a social media post.

The city estimated service will return by noon Monday "depending on unforeseen occurrences, progress, and pressure stabilization."

In an earlier statement, the city also said it is waiting for the arrival and installation of a required pumping system.

Water will be distributed at the Piggly Wiggly (FoodValu) parking lot starting at 8 a.m. Monday.

The city also asked for volunteers to help with the distribution.
