A May Day event that took place in Gee's Bend was featured on an episode of "Journey Proud" on Alabama Public Television.Â
Hosted by Joey Brackner, the episode took him through the Boykin community in Wilcox County.Â
"May Day in Gee's Bend has become an increasingly important community gathering since the local school closed almost 50 years ago," Brackner says in the opening.Â
He covers the May Day parade in which beads were thrown to the crowd similar to Mardi Gras, a dance troupe and others before culminating in the Maypole planting and a softball game.Â
