Selma’s sixth graders will start the school year at Knox Elementary School, Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams announced Friday.

Williams said at a news conference at Selma High School Media Center that the School of Discovery, which houses all 230 of the city’s sixth graders, has a “mold problem that if occupied could create some health concerns.”

“The school is not closing,” Williams said. “We are moving our scholars and staff to Knox (Elementary). This building will be safe and will assure that we can have a safe reopening. Our facilities project team will continue to review the situation.”
