A study by HostingAdvice found that Monroe County neighboring the Black Belt has the largest broadband growth over the past four years.
The study cites data from County Health Rankings comparing broadband accessibility from 2020 to 2024. Arkansas was No. 1 but Alabama was just behind at No. 2.
In Alabama there was an 8% increase, representing 192,663. In Monroe County there was an increase of 21% or 1,172 households. Franklin and Crenshaw counties saw no change in those years.
"Broadband connectivity is not just a luxury- it's a necessity for modern living," said Christina Lewis of HostingAdvice. "Our study highlights the progress being made in various states and counties, but it also underscores the ongoing need for investment in digital infrastructure to ensure all communities can thrive in our increasingly connected world.”
