The Montgomery Ballet company will be getting a new home on Coliseum Boulevard, the first building that it will own since being founded in 1958.

According to a press release the company will be moving into the Dixie Cleaners building after receiving a "generous" donation.

“This isn’t just a gift to Montgomery Ballet. It’s a gift to the entire community,” said Artistic-Executive Director Dionysios “Danny” Mitsios. “Owning our space gives us the ability to dream bigger, serve more people, and create a sustainable future for ballet in Central Alabama.”

In 2020 the company left the Courtyard Building on Eastern Boulevard, a space that it had been occupying for what was said to be a long time, and temporarily relocated to Cloverdale.

The was moved to East Fairview Avenue until the building was sold and relocated to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and the Eastbrook Shopping Center before a donation from Bubba Dean with architectural support from Andy Bozeman allowed it to move to its new home.

The new building has two studios for classes and rehearsals, a costume shop, and a black box theater housed in the larger studio that will allow rentals for other arts organizations.

Montgomery Ballet tours Selma, Greenville, Pike Road, and provides dance education at Tuskegee Public School.

“We want the people of Montgomery to feel this is their building,” said Mitsios. “Whether you're an artist, a parent, a local business, or someone who simply believes in the power of the arts — we invite you to be part of this journey.”
