A Montgomery County jury recently reached a verdict of guilty in a manslaughter case from 2020, said an announcement from District Attorney Daryl Bailey.
William Carroll was found guilty for the killing of Eric Witcher on April 30, 2020. The announcement from Bailey stated that the incident took place at an apartment in the Griffin Village complex.
An altercation occurred between the two and Carroll was accused of shooting at Witcher, striking him several times, as Witcher attempted to flee. Witcher was unarmed at the time, Bailey said.
"I am grateful to my team and the Montgomery Police Department for working tirelessly to get justice for Eric Witcher and his family," said Bailey in a statement. "He was, by all accounts, a loving father, son, and partner who didn’t deserve to lose his life in such a senseless manner."
"William Carroll callously gunned down an unarmed man, and by his own testimony, is not remorseful for doing so. As he has no regard for human life, we will ask that he gets the maximum sentence allowed as it’s only fitting that he spends his behind bars for as long as possible.”
Carroll now faces a 10-20 year prison sentence. Bailey said that he will be sentenced by Judge J.R. Gaines "at a later date."
