Montgomery Fire/Rescue Chief Miford Jordan was recognized by the city council with a proclamation on Tuesday, Feb. 20.Â
According to an announcement on social media, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said that Jordan is the first black chief in the department and is its longest serving chief.Â
Reed mentioned that Montgomery Fire/Rescue is the first metro department in Alabama to be rated as Insurance Service Office Class 1 and was unanimously awarded CFAI international accreditation. They also assembled a five-time world champion firefighter combat challenge team, he said.Â
"Chief Jordan graciously accepted this proclamation and credited it to his family upbringing and the opportunity to work under Mayor Reed's administration while serving the city and its citizens with a Spirit of Excellence," said a post on the city's Facebook page.Â
