A Montgomery man has been convicted of two counts of assault second degree and murder after shootings in 2020 that left two injured and one dead.

A statement from Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver said that Lorenzo Rainer was living on a camper at a property that he did not own when he reportedly shot the two men on two separate days with a pistol over a dispute about car parts.

The two survived but on Feb. 20 of that year Dana Riley and his brother in law approached the property to get brake parts. Rainer is said to have opened fire with an AK-47 and killed Riley.

The statement reports that Rainer has nine previous felony convictions and now faces a range of 15 years to life on the assault convictions, and either life in prison or life without parole for the murder conviction.

Oliver said that she will be seeking life and life without parole.

“I am proud that my team of prosecutors could bring justice to the victims of this habitual violent offender," she said. "My office will always be dedicated to aggressively prosecuting violent crimes."

"We will be seeking sentences of life and life without parole for these convictions, so that this violent felon will never again be free on the streets of Montgomery.”
