Montgomery man convicted for conspiracy to transport cocaine to Texas

A man from Montgomery has been convicted for conspiring to transport cocaine to Houston, TX, said an announcement from U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson. 

Vanshun Traywick, 45, faces five to 40 years in prison after an investigation began in 2020 into a suspected drug trafficking operation. 

"The investigation revealed that Traywick ordered kilogram quantities of cocaine from a co-conspirator, 45-year-old Michael Golden, from Houston, Texas. The cocaine would be delivered to Montgomery by another co-conspirator, Rufus Flanagan, 56, also from Houston," said the announcement. 

On Oct. 20 that year officers conducted a traffic stop of Flanagan in which a bag with approximately one kilogram of cocaine was reportedly found. 

"In addition to arranging for the purchase of large quantities of cocaine from Golden, the investigation also revealed that, on October 13, 2020, Traywick purchased two ounces of cocaine from another co-conspirator, 51-year-old Deneco Nettles, also from Montgomery," the announcement states. 

Traywick was found guilty on two counts of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Golden, Flanagan, and Nettles all pleaded guilty to drug conspiracy charges earlier in 2024. 

Nettles received a sentence of 18 months in prison while Golden’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 3 and Flanagan’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 5. 

Traywick's sentencing date was not specified but the announcement said that it will be scheduled in the coming months.
