A man from Montgomery pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a machinegun on Feb. 4, said an announcement from U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson.

According to the announcement, Ladarius Lamar Knight, 25, was arrested after officers on Zelda Road heard gunshots coming from a gas station on Jan. 7, 2025.

When they responded, three people were seen fleeing. The suspect later identified as Knight was chased into a nearby gas station where he was found hiding in a back storage area.

Police discovered a gun that he was reportedly attempting to hide in a box. It was eventually found to have a conversion device, commonly called a switch, that enables it to be fired like an automatic weapon.

Knight had prior felony convictions and was prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition.

He faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
