A federal judge has sentenced a man from Montgomery to ten years and ten months in prison after he pleaded guilty to sex trafficking a minor.

An announcement from U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama Jonathan Ross said that a hearing was held for the defendant, Jamecko Rontae Thomas, 45, on May 13 in which he was ordered to serve five years of supervised release after his prison term is up.

The plea agreement states that in July of 2021 Thomas entered a hotel in Montgomery to "engage in a commercial act" arranged by an unnamed co-defendant with a female minor who was under 18 years old.

The agreement also states that Thomas admitted to reckless disregard for the age of the female, as well as knowing that the co-defendant had arranged such acts before and that drugs were being used to induce the trafficking victims.

“Sex trafficking is a terrible crime—one that scars its victims for a lifetime,” said Ross. “This prosecution should send a clear message that my office will hold all individuals accountable for their participation in child sex trafficking and child exploitation, whether they are the traffickers or merely patrons.”
