A Montgomery man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for illegal possession of a machinegun following an incident in 2024 that involved a police pursuit.

According to an announcement from U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson agents from the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit tried to stop Alazavia Devontae Berry, 23, for a traffic violation on Sept. 8, 2024.

Berry reportedly then led officers on a chase through a residential area that stopped when he jumped out of the vehicle that was still moving and struck a house.

He fled on foot until he was caught by MACS agents and found to have a firearm with a conversion switch that turns it into an automatic weapon or machine gun.

Berry pled guilty to illegally possessing a machinegun on April 11, 2025.
