Montgomery man sentenced to 8 years after gun, drug convictions

A man from Montgomery has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of federal gun and drug charges. 

Arthur Varcea Colvin, 23, was sentenced on Tuesday, said a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Alabama. 

The statement cited Colvin's indictment saying that on Feb. 1, 2023 he was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. Le’Anthony Washington, 28, was identified as the driver while another passenger was unnamed. 

During the stop officers began to suspect that the car was carrying narcotics. After a search police found a .40 caliber handgun under the driver’s seat, an AR-15 pistol under the front passenger’s seat, a 9mm handgun on the back floorboard and more than 400 grams of marijuana in the trunk.

Colvin was found to have a handgun and a "small" amount of marijuana on him. Following his sentence he will serve three years of supervised release.
