Montgomery has been named a finalist for the 2026 All American City Award by the National Civic League.Â
An announcement from the league noted Montgomery for its history from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement. Its current mayor, Steven Reed, was mentioned as being its first black mayor.Â
"The city is engaging residents through a long-term strategic plan that allows communities to track progress and help shape outcomes," said the announcement. "Montgomery’s Neighborhood Services Department also strengthens neighborhoods by equipping community leaders with governance and leadership skills."Â
Among other highlights was the support for historically disinvested neighborhoods through the Montgomery Innovation Team.
