The City of Selma has released more details on infrastructure projects funded by the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) after it was announced that Terri Sewell and Mayor James Perkins Jr. would hold a press conference and tour the progress on Friday.

A press release by Selma said that the first project involves road resurfacing and drainage improvements across more than 70 blocks in the city, which will reportedly "enhance" public safety, as well as flood mitigation and road conditions.

The second involves a project funded by the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) to improve the parking lot and access at the Selma Interpretive Center in partnership with the National Park Service (NPS).

"These investments underscore our commitment to improving Selma's infrastructure while preserving its historic significance," said Sewell. "The [DRA's] support for street resurfacing and drainage improvements will uplift our community and ensure safer, more resilient neighborhoods."

Perkins said, "This is a historic moment for Selma. Thanks to our partnerships, we are addressing critical infrastructure needs and investing in our city's future. These projects will enhance the quality of life for our residents while honoring Selma's place in history as a beacon of progress and resilience."
