Morgan Academy art students let their talents shine at the AISA District 3 Art Show held at Wilcox Academy on Wednesday, March 13 with Kate Patterson winning Best of Show for High School, Best of Division and First Place for her non-color portrait drawing.
Of 82 Morgan entries, Morgan won 30 ribbons with four advancing to the AISA State Art Show April 2 at Faulkner University in Montgomery.
Advancing to the AISA State Art Show from Morgan Academy are Kate Patterson, Best of Show High School, Best of Division and First Place for her 9-12 Drawing Non-color – Portrait and Second Place for her 9-12 Watercolor – Portrait; Tucker Brooks, First Place 9-12 Collage – Music; and Ellie Tucker, First Place 4-5 Drawing Non-color – Flowers.
“I am overjoyed that our students did so well in the AISA District Art Competition,” Morgan Academy Headmaster Dr. Bryan Oliver said. “To have 30 ribbons awarded and several students moving on to the state level speaks to the quality of Morgan's art program.”
He added, “I want to thank Mrs. (Cam) Guarino for her hard work and dedication to our students. All our winners deserve a big congratulations!”
Morgan second, third and honorable mention winners were:
Second Place: Arabella Hughey, 4-5 Watercolor – Flower; Omar Cruz, K-1 Drawing Non-color - Three Cats; Judson Browning, 2-3 Printmaking – Tree; Kate Patterson, 9-12 Watercolor – Portrait; Addie Ozment, 6-8 Mixed Media – Cats; Evelyn Peak, 6-8 Watercolor – Still Life; Maggie Bennett, 6-8 Printmaking – Vase; Laura Ousley, 6-8 Drawing Color – Still Life; and Maggie Calame, 6-8 Collage – Pineapple Mosaic.
Third Place: Arabella Hughey, 4-5 Painting – Portrait; Vrahta Patel, K-1 Printmaking – Chick; Ella Grace Baxley, 2-3 Watercolor – Flower; Emsley Riley, 4-5 Printmaking – Flower; Lyla Tellier, 4-5 Drawing Non-color – Girl; George Wood, 2-3 Collage – Flower; Tucker Brooks, 9-12 Watercolor – House, 9-12 – Drawing Color – Cubism and 9-12 – Printmaking – Flower; Molly Woodson, 6-8 Drawing Color – Flowers; and Walton Rives, K-1 3D – Duck.
Honorable Mention: Lilli Hightower, 6-8 3D – Queen Elizabeth; Mac Switzer, K-1 Drawing Non-color – Bad Hair; Anne Bennett Howorth, 2-3 Drawing Color – Snail; Lyla Tellier, 4-5 Printmaking – Bear; and Maddi Brown, 2-3 Mixed Media – Chick.
Other schools in the show were Monroe, Jackson, Ft. Dale, Clarke Prep, Lowndes, Sparta and Wilcox.
