Two John T. Morgan Academy teachers were honored by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for their contributions at the school.

Mary Cook was recognized by the VFW for regularly encouraging her students to enter the Patriot's Pen Essay contest, which give scholarships for essays written with a patriotic theme. She teaches English and Spanish.

Kim Jones received the Citizenship Education Award. She teaches American history and geography.

"Mrs. Jones instills a sense of community pride and service in all of her students as she leads by example," the academy's Facebook page stated. "Congratulations to both of these outstanding teachers!"
