MONTANA - The Environmental Protection Agency has announced that seven recipients across Montana will receive $8 million in grants aimed at assessing, cleaning up, and revitalizing local lands. These efforts focus on addressing concerns such as asbestos and lead contamination.

This funding is part of a larger $267 million allocation in Brownfields grants distributed nationwide. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality will receive $2 million to conduct environmental assessments at vacant properties in Anaconda, Billings, and Libby. The assessments will address concerns about petroleum and asbestos in soil and groundwater.

Additionally, the City of Harlowton has been allocated $2 million. This grant will be used to clean up a highly contaminated railyard and refueling facility at the historic Milwaukee Road Historic District and Railyard.
