Dramatic body camera footage captures the moment police rescued an injured bald eagle stranded on the icy Hudson River in New York.

The bird was spotted crying out in distress before the NYPD water patrol used a pole to gently hook the eagle and lift it safely onto their boat.

The NYPD said: "Eagle-eyed cops to the rescue. While patrolling the Hudson River earlier this morning, our Harbor Unit officers spotted an injured bald eagle floating on the ice and calling out for help. They acted quickly and brought the bird to safety."

Social media users were impressed by the officers' actions.
