A new trial date has been set for William Chase Johnson, the man accused of the 2019 murder of Lowndes County Sheriff John "Big John" Williams.

According to WSFA, Johnson appeared for a status hearing in Macon County on Feb. 11 where the trial date was set.

The trial is now scheduled for Nov. 2 at the Tuskegee Municipal Complex.

Johnson was subject to a trial in 2024 that ended with a hung jury. He has maintained that he shot Williams in self defense but the prosecution argues that it was murder.
