Officials in Montgomery and Selma commemorated the day marking 25 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center and elsewhere on Sept. 11, 2001.Â
The attacks resulted in the deaths of 343 firefighters in New York City along with a multitude of first responders, noted a post on social media by Montgomery Fire & Rescue.Â
The commemoration in Selma was attended by Fire Chief Russell G. Collier, Mayor Steven Reed, Sen. Katie Britt, Rep. Shomari Figures, Sheriff Derrick Cunningham and Police Chief James Graboys.
Appreciation was expressed to Montgomery City Council members, Prattville Fire Department, and the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency, as well as community leaders, first responders and citizens.
"Your presence means so much as we remember, honor, and never forget," said the post.
In Selma city officials held a remembrance ceremony where Mayor Johnny Moss III spoke.Â
"We were honored to stand alongside our Selma first responders, community leaders, AmeriCorps members, veterans, and residents for a moment of reflection and remembrance," said a post on social media.
"Twenty-five years later, we remember not only the tragedy of September 11, but also the strength and unity that brought our nation together."
Similarly, thanks was expressed to first responders and to the community at large.Â
