The long abandoned Paterson School in Montgomery has been demolished to make way for a new health center for retired city employees and their families.

An announcement from the City of Montgomery gave a brief history of the W.B. Paterson Elementary School that was constructed in the 1950s. It was closed in 2007 and fell into disuse.

The space will be the home of a health center that will offer primary care, preventive health services, occupational health resources, wellness programming, and other services to retired city employees.

“This project represents progress on multiple fronts,” said Mayor Steven Reed. “We are removing a long-vacant property that has been a concern for residents for years while investing in the health and well-being of the employees who serve our community every day. This transformation reflects our commitment to strengthening neighborhoods, modernizing city services, and supporting the workforce that keeps Montgomery moving forward.”

Chambliss King Architects is designing the facility. The announcement stated further that the demolition is part of an effort to revitalize areas in the city and provide more employee benefits.
