An update from Perry County Commission Chairman Albert Turner Jr. says that an extensive project to improve the Albert Turner-Jimmie Lee Jackson Memorial Highway.Â
Turner announced on his Facebook page that contractors have been laying the asphalt surface and that striping will be done from the Dallas County line to the city limits of Marion.Â
"Phase one of the project was begun as reflectors and a center stripe were redone from County Road 6 to the Marion City limits," he said. "The outside stripe will be completed with the additional striping of the new resurfacing of the road."
"The second phase should be completed by the end of August giving a new wearing surface along the historic route as the beginning leg of the Selma To Montgomery National Trail. The third phase of the project will call for new signage along the highway from Marion City limits to the Dallas County line."
The project was sponsored in part by the Rebuild Alabama Act, with additional funding by a $250,000 grant from ATRIP II awarded to the county by Gov. Kay Ivey.
