Perry County officials announced Sunday they have made an agreement with the city of Marion to assist with the water crisis that started Thursday.
There also will be another water distribution day on Monday with details to be announced.
Perry County Commissioner Albert Turner Jr. reported on social media Sunday that the county will hook up its water system with the city’s “to fill the city’s water supply” with water that will come directly from the county wells bypassing the Marion Treatment Facility.
“There are a few adjustments that need to be made so that this can occur immediately,” Turner said.
The City of Marion will also issue a boil water notice “out of an abundance of caution,” the statement said.
“Should water pressure allow for the continued use to serve the county and the city, the Perry County Courthouse will remain open on Monday and Tuesday. If not, the courthouse will be closed for the entire week.”
There were water distribution events on Saturday and Sunday at the Sowing Seeds of Hope parking lot with water donated by the state Emergency Management Agency as well as a distribution at Providence Baptist using donations from area organizations.
Turner says the EMA distributions were approved by Gov. Kay Ivey, Senators Bobby Singleton and Robert Stewart and Perry County’s EMA Director DeAndrea Kimbrough, along with city and county officials and Perry County Water Authority.
Water will be distributed at the Piggly Wiggly (FoodValu) parking lot starting at 8 a.m. Monday.
