Face masks are now optional for students and staff at Perry County Schools after a policy requiring them due to the COVID pandemic, said an announcement from the district.

"As a district we will support the decision individual students and families make regarding the wearing or not wearing of face masks and ask that others be supportive of those choices as well," said the district's Facebook page post.

The district's message did note that the board of education has the ability to reinstate the policy if infection rates begin rising.

The schools will have supplies of masks for students who still want to wear them.
