New insurance policy providing additional benefits for Perry County employees now in effect

A new insurance policy called Guardian Life is now in effect to provide additional benefits for employees of Perry County, said an announcement from County Commissioner Albert Turner Jr.  

"The new policy ensures all county employees and elected officials would be provided a minimum of $20,000.00 to the designated beneficiary at death," Turner's announcement said, which noted that it comes at no cost to employees. 

The announcement said that previously employees had a sliding policy of $10,000 but the policy came with downsides such as some not having coverage due to age or having less because of certain positions. 

The new policy provides benefits regardless of age or position in the county. It also doubles if an employee dies of an accident and allows them to remain insured if they separate from the county employment at the policy holder's expense.

Turner's announcement said that he will focus on bringing a 457b retirement plan to "enhance" the state pension that employees of Perry County currently have.
