Phenix City and Montgomery were among other communities to receive a grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to lower energy costs.
The grants will reportedly help in replacing outdated heating, cooling and lighting systems with upgraded equipment.
“These State Energy Program funds will be put to good use in maximizing energy efficiency and lowering power bills for nearly a dozen city entities and nonprofit organizations across the state,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “I commend these grant recipients for their focus on energy conservation.”
Phenix City received $24,750 to upgrade the heating and air-conditioning system in the gym of the C-Club Recreation Center.
The South Central Alabama Development Commission in Montgomery received $26,900 to install LED lighting at the Lewis F. Duckworth Administrative Building.
“Investing in more efficient equipment with the help of a State Energy Program grant is a practical and prudent decision,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “I commend these grant recipients for their interest in this program and for being wise stewards of financial resources in the organizations they represent.”
