The Phenix City Police Department is still looking for answers in the case of the murder of Lamar Whittaker five years ago.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that could lead to a solution, according to CrimeStoppers.

Whittaker was reportedly 35 years old when he was killed on Oct. 17, 2020, near 10th Avenue South and 4th Place South.

"Investigators say Mr. Whittaker had stopped to help a stranded motorist and was working on the vehicle when gunfire erupted, said a post online by CrimeStoppers. "He was found against the curb next to the broken-down car. Evidence indicates Mr. Whittaker was not the intended target."

Whittaker was a father.
