Pickens County deputies arrested a man and a woman last week after receiving a call about an infant in a house where drug use was taking place.

According to an announcement from the Pickens County Sheriff's Office a call was made about the house on the 7000 block of Watermill Road where an infant was reported to be living without power or water.

Officers responded with personnel from the Department of Human Resources (DHR). When there was no response from the occupants deputies used a court order to make entry.

During the search they found the back door open and canvased a wooded area where they found the suspects carrying their three-week-old infant. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found on the two.

The baby was turned over to DHR and transported to a hospital to be evaluated.

The parents have been charged with possession of controlled substances, endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

"I commend our deputies for their diligence and commitment in locating the individuals and ensuring the safety of this child," said Sheriff Jordan Powell. "This incident is just one example of the hard work our men and women perform each and every day in some of the most difficult situations."
