Piedmont Airlines has been fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) months after a worker at Montgomery Regional Airport died in a workplace accident on New Year's Eve.Â
On Dec. 31 in 2022 Courtney Edwards was an employee acting as a wing walker when she was ingested by an airplane engine as it was in the process of being turned off.Â
A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) found that safety protocols had not been properly followed despite safety briefings being held.Â
Now the airline subsidiary is being fined for the accident, according to a report released by OSHA. The fine totals $15,625.Â
The report notes that this case is currently open and details may be added or taken off.Â
Edwards was a mother of three children. A GoFundMe page was started by the Communication Workers of America (CWA) Local 3645 to support her family and has since then raised more than $120,800.Â
