Pine Belt Telephone company has received a grant of $13 million from the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Utility Service to build a fiber to the premises network in North and Central Marengo County, as well as a portion of Hale and Perry.
In a press release Pine Belt called the technology "the most modern mechanism" for delivering internet, phone and television.
According to the press release the project is an extension of a grant by the USDA to rebuild all of its local network facilities in Arlington, Dixons Mills, Sweet Water and Nanafalia.
In the press release Pine Belt President John Nettles said that the project with all of its constructions and network connections will take up to five years to complete.
“Pine Belt Telephone has been serving the areas of Arlington, Dixons Mills, Sweet Water and Nanafalia since 1958” he said “We are very, very excited to expand our footprint into the areas targeted by these funds and we look forward to becoming as engrained in the additional communities as we are in our incumbent footprint.”
