Rep. Prince Chestnut (AL-67) recently introduced a bill to add Selma University to the Alabama Student Grant Program.
The bill was introduced on Wednesday, April 3 and has been referred to the House Ways and Means Education Committee for consideration.
Students must be undergraduates enrolled half or full-time at a university and must maintain "satisfactory" academic progress to be eligible for a grant. Funds from a grant will vary by availability but are not to exceed $3,000.
“It is my honor to bring a bill to make Selma University a part of the Alabama Student Grant Program," said Chestnut in a press release. "This historic college has been a staple of the community for over a century and anything I can do to strengthen the institution is paramount.”
