Do not cross II

Railroad workers doing maintenance on the railroad tracks near the crossing at Old Montgomery Highway in Selma have found a body.

Police Chief Kenta Fulford said they received a call Wednesday at 8:50 a.m. from the workers that a body was found less than a half mile from the railroad crossing.

“We do not know who it is. It looks like they have been there for a while,” Fulford reported.

The body had clothing, but no wallet, jewelry or any other item that would assist in an identification, according to Fulford. The body will be sent for an autopsy and forensics in Montgomery.

“So we’ll wait to see what the cause of death was” and identification, Fulford said. He expects to hear back in a week or two, depending on the lab’s workload.

Fulford added that the city has one person listed as missing this year, but the body found Wednesday does not match the height or any other description of that missing person.

“I know the county has two or three missing persons, so we are getting in touch with them to see what they have,” he added.
