SABRA Sanctuary in Selma has received a $528,389 grant from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the Fiscal Year 2023 Continuum of Care competition, said an announcement from the Alabama Rural Coalition for the Homeless (ARCH).Â
"This funding marks a monumental milestone," said ARCH Director Felecia Jackson. "It is the first ever COC award under ARCH to a domestic violence shelter and the single largest award to any entity in our COC in previous competition years."Â
"This is not just a monetary contribution, but a beacon of hope and a testament to our unwavering commitment to the vulnerable. It addresses a critical need in the counties SABRA Sanctuary serves, providing a haven of safety and dignity for those in dire circumstances."Â
SABRA provides services to domestic violence victims in Dallas County, as well as several surrounding counties.Â
"Project Team SABRA DV epitomizes the essence of partnership with ARCH," said SABRA Director Clementine Ellis. "This funding is more than a resource; it's a catalyst for transformative change in several Black Belt counties, including Wilcox, Marengo, Sumter, Perry, Dallas, and Greene. The impact of these funds is immeasurable, extending far beyond mere financial support."Â
