Jarmal Jabbar Sanders, a reverend and constable, announced this week he is forming an exploratory committee to see if there is public support for his platform as mayor of Selma.
Sanders, who was run for president of the United States and for Alabama House District 67, is the constable for Selma district D 13-S, and he is a pastor of what he called “a nondenominational and nontraditional” church.
Sanders said he is running on a platform that will turn “love into action through public policy.”
“I want to improve public safety and get the budget under control,” Sanders told the Selma Sun. “I want to extend the committees on the Selma City Council. It would be more efficient if there were more committees available, and if all the citizens of Selma could serve on those committees.”
With that in mind, Sanders said in a two-page campaign document that he if elected he will issue a court order that will demand that each voter serve on each “Selma City Council standing and joint committees and vote on all items.”
He said he would also issue an executive order to hold an election for voters to approve a bond issue that would give each Selma citizen $1 million.
Sanders said he would also issue executive orders to pay Selma’s federal income tax and arrest city councilpersons and mayors for not paying the city’s federal income taxes. He said he would also issue an executive order to build AT&T Stadium.
