Selma police are investigating a second murder over the weekend, which becomes the 14th for 2025.

Jakeisha Moore, 34 of Selma, died from gunshot wounds sustained in a shooting at Eugene Avenue and FD Reese Sunday night. Police say while en route to check on reports of gunshots at that location, officers encountered a vehicle with flashers running that was trying to take Moore to the hospital. Moore did not survive.

The Selma Police Department's CID Unit is handling the investigation. Detectives are actively following several leads and conducting interviews with witnesses, Chief Kenta Fulford said in a release, but no arrests have been made yet. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward by contacting the Selma Police Department at 334-874-5894, or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers/Tip Line at 334-215-STOP.

Another shooting death occurred in Selma Saturday night, with the killing of a 63-year-old Selma man. That prompted new Mayor Johnny Moss III to ask for a strategic plan to be formed to curb crime in Selma.

“Selma is tired of the constant gunfire in our streets, tired of living in fear, and tired of watching lives cut short by senseless violence,” Moss said in the statement. “This cannot continue!”
