Secretary of State reminds Alabamians of absentee voting deadlines before special election

Secretary of State Wes Allen has released a statement reminding Alabamians about absentee voting requirements ahead of the upcoming special primary election. 

According to his statement county absentee election managers must receive mail-in absentee ballot applications for the August 11 special primary election for congressional districts 1, 2, 6, and 7 by August 4. 

The deadline to return an absentee ballot application in person is August 6.

"Absentee ballots being returned in-person must be received by the county absentee election manager by close of business on the day before the election, August 10, 2026," said the statement. "Absentee ballots returned by mail must be received no later than noon on Election Day, August 11, 2026."

Voters are advised to mail absentee ballot applications and absentee ballots at least two weeks before the deadline. They are also remined that to present a valid form of photo ID before voting or when requesting an absentee ballot.
