The 16 year old Selma teen that was shot in the head Wednesday night passed away Friday night from his injuries, officials confirm.
AuTerrious Walter, a sophomore at Selma High School, died at UAB Hospital after being airlifted there from Selma on Wednesday.
Selma City Schools reported his passing on Saturday, calling his death a tragedy for the entire school community and offered counselors at the school this week.
Walter was a "bright and promising" student who "displayed so much potential and his absence leaves a void that will be felt by many," Byrd said.
The shooting took place around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at Citizens Parkway and Woodrow Avenue, Police Chief Kenta Fulford said.
Police were called to the scene and found a juvenile who suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
The teen was taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma but was airlifted to UAB for further treatment.
Fulford said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Right now detectives are “canvasing the area, talking to businesses and residents trying to determine if anyone saw anything.”
At this time there have been no arrests and there are no known suspects yet.
