Efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism and improve in other areas has led to an increase in its state report card grade for the second year in a row, said an announcement from Selma City Schools (SCS).

The district focused on academic achievement, academic growth, college and career readiness, and the graduation rate, which led to a 79 or a grade C in the 2024-2025 school year.

"This remarkable achievement for the second consecutive year showcases the unwavering determination, teamwork, and commitment of our dedicated educators, staff, students, parents, and administrative team," said the announcement.

"We extend special thanks to our current Superintendent, Dr. David Scott; Interim Superintendent Darryl Aikerson; and former Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd. Despite changes in leadership, our entire school community has demonstrated exceptional dedication to excellence and a steadfast focus on prioritizing our students' success."

Of note was Clark Elementary School receiving a 12-point increase that lead from 66 to 78.

“Our goal is always to prioritize the best interests of all children to ensure they receive a quality education," said Superintendent Dr. David Scott. "The success of the Selma City School District is the result of a united effort. This accomplishment truly reflects the commitment and passion of our employees and supporters.”
