Selma City Schools is pleased to introduce Born Ready University! Born Ready is a grant-funded initiative from the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education (ADECE) focused on raising awareness among Alabama parents on the importance of early brain development and high-quality early care and education. The purpose of Born Ready is to empower parents with tools to support their children as their first and best teacher.
Starting March 12th, Selma City Schools will host four free sessions for new and expectant mothers with children ages 0 to 3 years old. Participants will learn about child brain development, child health/safety, and how to prepare for language and literacy. Additionally, participants will learn how to read and engage their child and the best techniques for coping with the daily stress of being a parent.
"Supporting our families will give our youngest scholars a greater opportunity for success even before they enter Pre-K and kindergarten. I am really excited that Born Ready University has a literacy focus and addresses stress. This opportunity is a blessing and I encourage our parents to join us."-Dr. Avis Williams, Superintendent.
We invite new and expectant mothers to register today. Meeting dates are March 12th, April 2nd, April 16th, and April 30th. Daycare services will be provided each session. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a $50 gift card to purchase items for their child, the Animal Island Learning Adventure AILA Technology Device, and books to begin building a family library.
