Selma City Schools partners with Selma Center for Nonviolence on Reading Initiative

Partners with TRHT and Separation Design Team kicked off a reading mentorship program with a superhero backpack distribution for third graders at Sophia P. Kingston Elementary on Monday.

The Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) Selma initiative, the Separation Design Team (SDT) has partnered with Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School to start a Reading Mentorship Project.

The partnership kicked off with a superhero backpack distribution for third graders at SPK Elementary on Monday. Each mesh backpack is filled with a Selma Superhero book, a Selma Superhero mask, a Selma Superhero dog tag, stickers, a hand sanitizer pen, and a thermometer for the family. In this way, the project addresses the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the need for strong literacy skills.
