Selma City Schools receives a ā€˜C’ on Alabama State Report Card

Selma Superintendent Avis Williams works with students. Scores are improving since Williams joined the district.

The Alabama Department of Education has released its Alabama Unified Report, giving grades to schools throughout the state, including those in Selma, which received a 76/C score.

ā€œWe are proud of the improvements and progress across the district,ā€ Selma City Schools stated on its Twitter account. ā€œWe congratulate our scholars, teachers, and leaders for their hard work. Our gains signify that we are moving in the direction of performance excellence.ā€

The grade is based on the rate of academic achievement, as well as academic growth, chronic absenteeism, graduation rates and college and career readiness.

A three-year report card can be seen on the Selma school system’s Twitter page, showing an improvement from a 72/C score in the 2017-2018 year. Sophia P. Kingston Elementary School and R.B. Hudson STEAM Academy are up from an ā€œFā€ score in 2016-2017.
