Selma Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday night in the Felix Heights apartments.

Chief Kenta Fulford said officers were dispatched around 8:45 p.m. March 12 after receiving reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to a local hospital. Police said the victim’s condition is still being evaluated.

Investigators secured the area and began collecting evidence shortly after the shooting. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and following leads as they work to determine what led to the incident. Fulford said investigators are actively searching for those responsible.

“Acts of violence such as this have no place in our community,” Fulford said in the release. “Our officers responded swiftly and professionally, and we are committed to using every available resource to identify and hold those responsible accountable. The safety of the citizens of Selma remains our highest priority.”

The department is asking anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 334-874-5258 or provide anonymous tips through 215-STOP.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available.
