Joseph Ellis Selma police officer

Joseph Ellis, Selma police officer, was recognized for investigative work.

A Selma police officer working part-time in the department’s Detective Division is being recognized for investigative work that led to the recovery of several stolen vehicles and multiple arrests.

Officer Joseph Ellis recovered seven stolen vehicles and helped arrest three suspects connected to those thefts, according to Chief Kenta Fulford in a statement from the Selma Police Department.

Fulford said Ellis’ work extended beyond the vehicle theft investigation. While pursuing leads in that case, he developed information connected to a separate incident involving shots fired into a residence on Pecan Drive.

Through his investigation, Ellis obtained a search warrant related to the shooting. The warrant ultimately led to the arrest of a suspect believed to be responsible for firing into the home, Fulford said.

Fulford praised Ellis for the initiative he showed during the investigation and for continuing to pursue additional information that led to further arrests.

“This is an excellent example of the type of proactive police work and commitment to public safety that helps keep our community safe,” Fulford said in the statement.

Fulford also commended Ellis for his professionalism and dedication to the community he serves.

“I want to personally commend Officer Ellis for his professionalism, determination, and dedication to the citizens we serve,” Fulford said. “Great work, and thank you for your continued service to our community.”
