Selma is one of 30 communities to be selected for the Economic Development Academy, a program by the Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM).Â
The Selma City Council recently made an announcement on its Facebook page that the city will be taking part in the program, which was launched this year.Â
The Alabama Community College System helped to develop the program with support from a council of industry leaders.Â
According to a page on ALM's website, the academy seeks to educate and train municipal leaders on economic development and "highlight" the impact of community projects.Â
Those selected for the academy will attend a fall orientation and then convene several more times a year to complete assignments and come up with strategies for economic growth.Â
Upon completion of program requirements participants are awarded four hours in the Certified Municipal Official Program.Â

Alexander City, Bessemer, Center Point, Centreville, Chelsea, Coffeeville, Columbiana, Elba, Enterprise, Gadsden, Geneva, Good Hope, Guin, Hartselle, Irondale, Lipscomb, Monroeville, Mount Vernon, Oneonta, Opp, Ozark, Pike Road, Scottsboro, Tallassee, Tarrant, Thomasville, Trussville, Tuskegee and Union Springs.
