The Selma Times-Journal held a memorial on Thursday for managing editor James Kenneth Jones, who passed away on Sept. 13.

Jones had been covering news in Selma and Dallas County since 2018.

Many of Jones’ friends, coworkers and family, including Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn, attended the memorial to share stories about Jones at the STJ office on Water Avenue.

Although everyone in attendance said many times how much Jones will be missed, the atmosphere of the memorial was upbeat and positive as we all shared our stories and reminisced about our friendship with Jones.

Two facts we all learned about Jones at the memorial was that he was an accomplished author with six books to his credit. He wrote under the nom de plume K.T. Bishop. He was also an accomplished screenwriter under the name J.K. Jones.

Jones was a Birmingham native. While in Selma, he worked hard to present both sides of any controversial story and has been commended repeatedly for his coverage of local school athletics and other events.

Jones had suffered a series of mini strokes and was in rehabilitation when his health suddenly took a turn for the worse. He was 54.
