Selma University received a $50,000 donation from Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention on June 29 for scholarships and capital improvements.
Dr. Stanford Angion received the donation from Dr. Melvin Owens, president of the Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention, during the university’s hour of the annual Southwest District Convention held at New First Baptist Church in Thomasville, where Rev. Dr. Carlton Hogue is the pastor.
“The donation will be used for scholarships and capital improvements at the University,” said Dr. Angion. “I was pleasantly surprised when Dr. Owens shared with me his plan to make the donation only a few hours prior to the announcement. The University is elated for the ongoing support from the Convention.”
The Alabama State Missionary Baptist Convention founded Selma University in 1878 to train men and women to become servant leaders in their communities and throughout the world. For more information on Selma University visit their website selmauniversity.edu
