A Selma woman battling cancer is being highlighted by a national cancer fund during the University of Alabama at Birmingham women’s basketball team on Wednesday.
Amy Carmichael of Selma will be honored at the UAB vs Wichita State game at Bartow Arena at 6 p.m. Wednesday as part of the annual Play4Kay game that supports the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Carmichael, along with her husband, Selma City Councilman Clay Carmichael, and their two children will be recognized at the game that will also serve as a fundraiser for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund that is named for the legendary Hall of Fame women’s basketball coach who fought cancer.Â

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS EVENING FOR
THE SOUTHERN HALF OF CENTRAL ALABAMA...
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Red Flag
Warning, which is in effect until 6 PM CST this evening.
* WINDS...Northwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 22 percent.
* IMPACTS...The combination of a dry air mass and windy conditions
will result in critical fire weather conditions. Outdoor burning
is not recommended. Current wildfires could worsen due to the
winds.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
